As the number of children being diagnosed as obese has dramatically risen, do to unhealthy diets and lack of physical activity.

What we can we can do to help prevent childhood obesity is balance the calories your child takes in from foods and beverages with the calories your child uses through physical activity and normal growth. Children shouldn’t be put on a weight reduction diet without consulting a health care provider.

We as parents should encourage healthy eating habits by providing vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, low-fat/non-fat dairy products, and lean meats. Serve reasonable sized portions and drink lots of water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages. Small changes daily can make the transition easy and successful.
